May 14, 2025 Update: As noted in my earlier statement on April 17, 2025, although the town has no jurisdiction over the State investigation at the construction site at Trumbull Center, the town continues to have ongoing conversations with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) as to the resolution of the situation.
DEEP's Emergency Response Unit and Solid Waste Division have been overseeing the Trumbull Center site since the initial hazardous materials report was made. The site has been secured, and DEEP has assured the Town that there is no hazard to public health and safety. According to DEEP, all emergency measures have been taken, and the Solid Waste Division of DEEP is working with the property owners and their engineers and consultants to determine the final closure plan in accordance with federal and state regulations. As of today, closure of the site is estimated to be complete within a six-week time frame.
