February is Heart Month –Trumbull Health Department offering blood pressure screenings
In observance of Heart Month, the Trumbull Health Department will be offering free blood pressure screenings at the Health Department location, 335 White Plains Road, Monday and Thursday afternoons as well as Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. Residents should call ahead for walk-in hours.
For an accurate reading, caffeine or nicotine should be avoided for one hour prior to the screening. Before the blood pressure screening, participants will be asked to sit and relax for a few minutes. More than one blood pressure reading is necessary to make a determination of Hypertension. For accurate blood pressure readings a series of screenings on different days and times should be done.
For those residents already diagnosed with high blood pressure or Hypertension, the Health Department will be conducting a free 6-week Self Care and Prevention workshop. The workshop will focus on tools to take control of your blood pressure (home monitoring, healthy eating, physical activity, medications, treatments, meditation, and relaxation techniques). Participants completing the workshop will receive a free blood pressure monitoring kit.
