FIRST SELECTMAN HERBST LAUDS TRUMBULL PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AND IMPROVEMENT ON SBAC TESTING
Herbst: “This spectacular work is the direct result of excellent leadership and new, innovative strategies with curriculum, instruction and assessment.”
August 19, 2016 - - First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst on Friday offered praise to the Trumbull Board of Education, Dr. Gary Cialfi, School Superintendent, his administrative team and teachers throughout the Trumbull Public Schools for the outstanding, improved performance on the SBAC examination. On the front page of today’s Connecticut Post, the Trumbull Public School System was specifically highlighted for improved achievement that surpassed virtually every other neighboring school district and was among the highest levels of growth statewide.
“In Trumbull more than 81% of students made the grade in reading in 2016, a 15-point increase over 2015, while 76% were on track in math, another 15-point gain,” wrote Linda Conner Lambeck of the Connecticut Post. “Both gains were among the highest in the state.” Trumbull best both Westport and Fairfield in both reading and math scores.
“This spectacular work is the direct result of excellent leadership and new, innovative strategies with curriculum, instruction and assessment,” stated First Selectman Herbst. “Dr. Cialfi made improvement in these scores a top priority and he and his administrative team and our teachers not only delivered, but exceeded every probable expectation for improvement in just one year.” The First Selectman specifically cited Dr. Jonathan Budd, who is completing his first year of service as Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for his efforts in developing a plan of action that was implemented district wide by administrators and teachers. “Dr. Budd has done a tremendous job in just one year of service to the district. It is a credit to Dr. Cialfi’s leadership that he has built such an amazing team of people to educate Trumbull’s children. Our administrators, our teachers, our paraprofessionals and all those who work for TPS are among the best and the brightest in Connecticut.” The First Selectman indicated that over the course of the last week, Trumbull’s school system was making national and statewide news.
“Every parent in Trumbull should know that when they chose to move here, they absolutely made the right decision of where to raise their family and educate their kids,” stated Herbst. “When a national publication says we are in the top ten most in demand school districts nationwide and when our student achievement has made the strongest gains statewide, all of us as Trumbullites can take pride in the fact that our school system has never been stronger. I couldn’t be more proud of the quality of the Trumbull Public Schools.”
