FIRST SELECTMAN’S GOLF CLASSIC RAISES RECORD $323,230.00
Money raised over the last five years benefits programs at Trumbull High School
August 17, 2016 – First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst on Wednesday announced that the First Selectman’s Golf Classic has raised a record $323,230 since its inception in 2012.
Started by First Selectman Herbst in 2012, the First Selectman’s Golf Classic is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that raises money for student programs at Trumbull High School. Specific programs that benefit are Trumbull High School Athletics, the Trumbull High School Golden Eagle Marching Band and the Trumbull ACE Foundation. The First Selectman specifically credited his administrative assistant, Barbara Whetstone with being the “glue that holds the classic together and helps to grow it each and every year.” The First Selectman reflected upon his education at Trumbull High School as the reason why he started the First Selectman’s Golf Classic, noting the importance of our public school system.
“As a proud alum of Trumbull High School, I am thrilled that the Golf Classic has raised record levels of funding for student programs at Trumbull High School” stated First Selectman Herbst. “These funds help our athletic teams to compete and be among the best in Connecticut. These funds allow our marching band to compete at the national level. Most importantly, these funds allow for an extension of learning beyond the classroom for our academic competitive teams that our sponsored by our ACE Foundation. With a school system that was recently ranked in the “Top Ten” most in demand nationwide, this charitable organization helps raise the bar for our school district and sets us apart from the rest.”
Dr. Gary Cialfi also offered praise for the funds raised on behalf of student programs at Trumbull High School. “Once again, the Golf Classic has received enormous support from the entire Trumbull community,” stated Dr. Gary Cialfi. “As Superintendent, I am extremely appreciative of the financial benefits that so many THS athletes, musicians and academic competitive team members receive from this annual event.” Trumbull High School Principal Marc Guarino added that this annual event demonstrates how the Trumbull community values public education. “The First Selectman’s Golf Classic was a tremendous success. The Trumbull High School community would like to thank all those who organized this year’s event and to all the volunteers who worked to make this event happen,” stated Mr. Guarino. “Our students are fortunate to live and learn in a community that truly values education. Our community’s support for the First Selectman’s Golf Classic reflects all that is great about being a Trumbull High School Golden Eagle.”
Established in 2012, the Board of Directors for the First Selectman’s Golf Classic include Sean Carroll, Michael Herbst, John Ponzio, Rosemary Seaman and Lucinda Timpanelli.
