Attention High School and College Students: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) - Summer Class starting July 1, 2014 at Trumbull EMS

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), formerly MRT (Medical Response Technician), course is designed for anyone interested in learning more about Emergency Medical Services and in being a first responder. The EMR is usually the first trained individual who arrives at the scene of an emergency. Many Police Officers, Firefighters, Public Safety Officers, Athletic Trainers take this class so they can provide emergency care to a patient until ambulance resources arrive. The Emergency Medical Responder could work as a driver or third crew member on an ambulance. This class is also great for those students who wish to pursue a career in the field of Nursing, Physician Assistants, Medical Physicians Personal/Athletic Trainers, Police Officer or Firefighting.

Successful completion of this class will allow students to volunteer at Trumbull EMS or many other ambulance services in the area. Each student upon successful completion of the class will be eligible to take the state certification exam. As an EMR, you will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to provide basic lifesaving interventions to those who are sick or injured. You will also assist higher level providers on scene and during transport.
Topics covered include:

• Respiratory emergencies
• Cardiac problems
• Strokes
• Seizures
• Trauma
• Childbirth emergencies
• Vehicle extrication
• Lifting/Moving of patients

Class is offered to those interested over the age of 14. This class is intensive so all students should be mature and capable of keeping up with a college level course curriculum. Sensitive topics such as OBGYN, Traumatic Injuries, and Death will be discussed. All registrations and payment should be received by June 13, 2014.

Class tuition is $400 which includes the book. Class will start July 1, 2014-July 30, 2014 (more classes may be scheduled if instructor feels students could use additional time to prepare for exam). Class will meet on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8a-12p at our headquarters located at 250 Middlebrooks Avenue.
