[ARCHIVED] TMHD Partners With Cooking Matters to Offer Shopping Tour for Seniors

TMHD Partners With Cooking Matters to Offer Shopping Tour for Seniors

In honor of National Public Health Week, the Trumbull Monroe Health District (TMHD) has partnered with Cooking Matters and Stop and Shop to offer a program called, “Cooking Matters at the Store,” on Thursday, April 10, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., at Stop and Shop, 33 Quality Street, Trumbull. This free program empowers families to stretch their food budget to get healthy meals at home. This program will be offered to seniors, 55 years of age and older. Space is limited. Registration is required. Call TMHD at 203-452-5195 between 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. to register.

“TMHD is pleased to be able to work together with our partners to offer this program to seniors,” said Patrice Sulik, TMHD Director of Health. “This program will offer tips on how to eat healthy while staying within your budget.”

Cooking Matters at the Store is based on 20 years of experience serving low-income families across the country. During the tour, participants are empowered with four key food skills: reading food labels, comparing unit prices, finding whole grain foods, and identifying three ways to purchase produce. Participants take home a booklet with recipes and shopping tips, a reusable grocery bag, and a $10 gift card.

Sulik said, “TMHD hopes to be able to offer this program to other age groups in our community in the near future.”

Register today! Call TMHD at 203-452-5195 to register or for more information.
