A West Haven man, with several outstanding warrants, concealed Macy’s clothing and after a brief struggle with police in attempts to flee, he was arrested.

Robert Lee Banks, age 48, attempted to leave the Trumbull Mall with $247 worth of unpaid for clothing.

On Tuesday, July 30, Macy’s security observed Banks, wearing an orange shirt, enter the fitting room area while carrying an armful of clothing and a bag. Banks was later observed exiting the fitting room wearing a black tank top and a white hat while carrying the bag of clothing that was also concealed by his orange shirt.

As Trumbull Police officers assisted in apprehending Banks, he started to run for the exit. As officers closed in, Banks pulled away from the officer’s grip and attempted to push an officer off of him as he fought to get away. Banks was eventually controlled and taken into police custody. There were no injuries during this incident.

Banks was found to have seven (7) outstanding warrants for his arrest. For this incident Banks was charged with Interfering with Police, Larceny in the Sixth degree, and was held on a $5,000 bond. Banks is scheduled to appear in court on August 12, 2019.
