[ARCHIVED] Trumbull Counseling Center To Be Named In Honor Of Trumbull Resident Mary Sherlach

TRUMBULL COUNSELING CENTER TO BE NAMED IN HONOR OF TRUMBULL RESIDENT MARY SHERLACH

January 22, 2013 – First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst announced this morning that his administration has introduced legislation to the Trumbull Town Council that would name the Trumbull Counseling Center after Trumbull resident Mary J. Sherlach, a school psychologist at Sandy Hook Elementary School, who courageously gave her life in the defense of the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.

“Mary Sherlach devoted her entire career to helping other people” stated First Selectman Herbst.  “Those that knew her and worked with her will always remember her unwavering commitment to helping others.  Mary was selfless and courageous.  This was truly exemplified by her valiant acts to try and protect the children of Sandy Hook Elementary School.”  The First Selectman indicated that the counseling center was the appropriate facility to name after Sherlach.   “Our counseling center exists to help residents who might be encountering problems or experiencing difficulties. As a school psychologist, Mary dedicated her life’s work to helping young children with problems or difficulties.  I am confident that the Trumbull Town Council will act decisively in February to approve this important legislation as we honor Mary’s memory and pay tribute to her life’s work.”   The First Selectman indicated that the dedication of the Sherlach Counseling Center would occur in the spring.
