[ARCHIVED] Storm Update from the First Selectman's Office-8/30

August 30:  This is an update regarding the Hurricane Irene recovery efforts.

Town Hall is open for business. The Trumbull Library is closed until further notice due to a power outage. Trumbull's schools are closed until Tuesday, September 6. Please be advised that we have downed lines and trees on and near school properties. Parents and children should avoid these areas.  The UI Company has crews clearing downed lines so that roads may be opened by our Public Works Department.

Power is being restored as quickly as possible but you should be prepared for it to be out through the weekend.

We need to assume downed power lines are dangerous. Do not go near them. Please report any new power outages to United Illuminating at 1-800-722-5584.

We realize the lack of electricity is a major inconvenience. We're addressing this in a few ways.

The Police Department and Public Works Department are working with the UI crews to open roads and restore power as quickly as possible. There are many storm related down lines and about the half the town is still without power at this time.

Hillcrest Middle School is open from 8AM to 8PM for Trumbull residents to use the showers. You need to bring your own toiletries, towels and photo IDs.

Please continue to check the town website for further updates during the week
