[ARCHIVED] 2019-02-13 Gun Recovered After Vehicle Check

Trumbull Police recovered a handgun and marijuana after checking a vehicle parked in a lot of a vacant building on Oakview Drive.

 On Tuesday February 12, 2019, at around 9:30 p.m., a Trumbull officer patrolling the area of Old Town Road and Oakview Drive, observed fresh tire tracks in the snow leading into the parking area of a vacant office building at 100 Oakview Drive. As the officer drove upon the lone car parked near the front of the building, he saw two people inside climbing into the front seat from the rear seat. 

When the officer approached the car, he could smell marijuana coming from inside. The operator of the car, Kaison Reed Sheffey 27, of Robert Street, Bridgeport, stated that he and his passenger, Kayla Padilla 18, of Beers Street, Bridgeport, had just stopped there to smoke. Inside Reed-Sheffey’s vehicle, officers recovered two plastic bags containing marijuana and a loaded handgun with a large capacity magazine. 

The gun, a Taurus 9mm, will require further investigation determine its origin. Padilla had a small bag of marijuana inside her purse. She was issued an infraction and released at the scene. 

Reed-Sheffey was taken into custody and charged with, Carrying a Pistol without a Permit, Weapon’s in a Motor Vehicle and Possession of High Capacity Magazine. He was held on $50,000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on February 20, 2019. He was also issued an infraction for the marijuana.
