First Selectman Timothy M. Herbst offered the following statement on the retirement of Senator Joseph I. Lieberman:
"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Senator Joseph Lieberman on his years of service to the people of Connecticut. Senator Lieberman has demonstrated a true commitment to his constituents and a passion for public service. He has lived the American Dream. Starting with humble beginnings, Senator Lieberman became the first Jewish-American to be nominated by a major political party for Vice President of the United States. Senator Lieberman is a man of principle, who disagreed with his party when he felt it was in the best interests of the nation. I wish him and his wife, Hadassah all the best as they begin this new chapter of their life."
