PRESS RELEASE
August 13, 2008
Sanitary sewer construction has begun on a 125-house extension to an existing project labeled Phase IV, Part B, Contract III. This extension was overwhelmingly approved during a public hearing on February 27, 2008.
This construction will require limited blasting on streets where excavation will be exceptionally deep. The following streets will be affected: Classic Drive, Daniels Farm Road from houses 1003 through 1282, Green Acres Lane, Hurd Road, Marathon Road, North Green Acres Lane, Nuthatch Hill Road, Ranch Drive, and Wildfire Lane.
Residents have been calling Town Hall asking about the procedures followed when this type of excavation and blasting is required. The section to be excavated is reported to the Fire Marshal every morning. Police dispatch and 911 services are also informed. All residents within 500 feet of the blasting site are notified by mail well in advance and pre-blast surveys are performed. A pre-blast survey verifies the condition of all houses within the 500-foot range and is intended for the protection of the homeowner. An instrument is used to monitor and record the intensity of every blast. The W.P.C.A. wants to assure all residents in this area that the original contract area provided service to 556 homes and no blasting damage was verified.
