Lightning Detection System

The Town of Trumbull has a Lightning Detection system installed in our major recreational areas in town. When the system detects lightning within 5 miles of the site, the system will sound a siren three times and strobes will flash continuously alerting people to clear the area. Once 30 minutes has passed with no lightning, two airhorns will sound letting people know it is safe to resume activity.

Lightning detection covers our major recreational areas in town:

  • The Trumbull High School system covers Indian Ledge Park, Twin Brooks, Beach Memorial Pool, and Nothnagle Park.
  • The Town Hall system covers Unity Park, Island Brook Park, Madison Middle School, and Kaechele Field.
  • The Tashua Knolls system covers Tashua Knolls Golf Course, Tashua Pool, and Old Mine Park.
