West Nile Virus

West Nile Virus (WNV) was identified in Connecticut in 2000. This virus is caused by mosquitoes. The elderly and those with compromised immune systems are most at risk. You can reduce your risk of being infected with WNV by using insect repellent and wearing protective clothing to prevent mosquito bites. Learn more about WNV on the Fact Sheet from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (PDF).
