[ARCHIVED] 05/8/2020 COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 (JPG)

Good Evening,

This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro with an important update.

As of yesterday we had 427 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Trumbull. 72 of our Trumbull residents have passed away. The majority of our deaths continue to be in facilities caring for our most vulnerable population.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of our families who are suffering due to this crisis.

We continue to emphasize the importance of following social distancing guidelines. Also you must wear a mask in public places where you cannot maintain a safe social distance of at least 6 feet.

The tennis and pickleball courts at Tashua Knolls will reopen to residents on Tuesday, May 12th from 9am-6pm daily. Usage is limited to Trumbull residents only. To ensure social distancing, courts will be open for singles play at this time. To guarantee court time please request a free permit from the Parks & Recreation Department. A limited number of permits will be available each day. For information on how to obtain a permit please visit www.trumbull-ct.gov/tennis or call 203-452-5060.

All other tennis and pickleball courts will remain closed until further notice.

Effective tomorrow, Saturday, May 9th Great Oak Park located on Haverhill Road will reopen with restrictions.

Please check the town website for a complete list of COVID-19 safety procedures at the parks, tennis courts, and the golf course and for information on how to obtain a park sticker.

Following Governor Lamont’s guidance about a phased-in approach to reopening Connecticut’s economy I have formed the Trumbull Government Operations Recovery Committee. The purpose of this committee is to prepare a plan to reopen Town Hall and other Town facilities in an orderly, systematic, and safe manner for both our employees and the public. All town departments are represented on this committee. More information will be available in the near future.

The town has also created a Long Term Recovery Committee as a part of our Disaster Recovery strategy. This committee will look at community-wide recovery in phases and will specifically deal with the phased reopening of businesses and commercial centers throughout town.

The Trumbull High School Marching Band will resume their monthly bottle and can fundraiser on Saturday, May 16th, from 9AM to 1 PM at the Trumbull Library. Please note the change from their usual location. Social distancing will be observed at all times.

If you or anyone you know is struggling to purchase food or can’t get to the store please contact Social Services at 203-452-5136, for this and other services and assistance.

I want to thank our Trumbull community for their generosity and kindness. Monetary contributions of over $25,000 in addition to food donations have been made to date to help those in need in our community.  Anyone wishing to donate to the Food Pantry, please visit the Food Pantry page on the Town website or call 203-452-5136 for more information.

I would like to wish all of the moms in our community a Happy Mother’s Day. I would like to encourage all those celebrating mom, to consider shopping local at our florist, gift shops and our restaurants. We have links to our open businesses on our town website. They are adapting for us, let’s support them as we can.

Thank you for your patience and your cooperation.

Stay safe, stay well, and stay home as much as possible.

Thanks for listening.
