[ARCHIVED] 05/15/2020 COVID-19 Update

COVID-19 (JPG)

Good Evening,

This is First Selectman Vicki Tesoro with an important update.

As of today we have 467 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Trumbull.  85 of our Trumbull residents have passed away. 70 of those who have died resided in our extended care facilities.  302 of the people who tested positive are either recovered or recovering, 5 are hospitalized, 2 are actively ill, and 73 were not reachable through our contact tracing process.

Please keep all of these families in your thoughts and prayers.

Effective tomorrow Saturday, May 16th Beach Memorial Park will reopen from 9 AM to 7 PM daily. The same guidelines that exist at our other parks are applicable here.

Please check the town website for a complete list of COVID-19 safety procedures at the parks, tennis courts, and the golf course and for information on how to obtain a park sticker. Please follow these guidelines to protect everyone’s health and safety.

On Wednesday May 20th Phase 1 of the reopening of Connecticut’s economy will begin. We are providing our businesses with guidance and information to make sure that all protocols, state guidelines, and safety procedures are followed. We are asking all our residents to observe these guidelines to help our businesses succeed.

In that regard, I will be hosting our third virtual Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, May 19th at 3 PM.  Joining me will be a representative from the Trumbull Westfield Mall, also Dan Onofrio, President of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, Rina Bakalar, Trumbull’s Economic and Community Development Director, Chief of Police Michael Lombardo, and other Town Hall employees.

An overview of the reopening of Westfield Trumbull Mall on May 20th and regional efforts to support businesses and employees will be discussed. The expansion of outdoor dining and outdoor retail to accommodate more customers will also be explained.

Please visit the Town website for information on how to join this virtual meeting, which will also be live screened on the TCTV Facebook page. Residents and businesses can tune in via Zoom at: https://zoom.us/j/97531631372?pwd=aUpWMmRmdHkxOThiK083T29JZlQ1dz09  Webinar ID: 975 3163 1372 Password: 782881 or can call in at (312) 626-6799 / Webinar ID: 975 3163 1372.

I have received inquiries in regards to our summer programs, including camps, concerts, and pools. There are still many unknowns and the current guidance from the State of Connecticut sets very strict protocols for the operation of these programs and facilities.  Our Parks and Recreation Department is working diligently to determine which programs we can safely provide to our residents this summer. I will continue to provide updates as they become available.

The Town Council Finance Committee will hold a virtual Public Hearing on the Town Budget tomorrow, Saturday, May 16th at 10 AM.
