The Trumbull Health Department and Sustainable Trumbull have partnered to offer additional recycling locations in town. The Trumbull Health Department will have recycling boxes at 335 White Plains Road for beauty and cosmetics, oral care products, printer ink cartridges and toners, and plastic film. Residents can stop in at the Health Department, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm to recycle these household items.
“We are delighted to partner with Sustainable Trumbull on this recycling initiative,” said Luci Bango, Trumbull Health Department Director of Health. “Recycling prevents pollution and conserves our natural resources. When we recycle, we reduce the amount of waste sent to our landfills and we help make a healthier environment for all.”
Mari Jackson, a volunteer for Sustainable Trumbull states, “Utilizing programs through Trex and Terracycle, Sustainable Trumbull has identified avenues to recycle items typically not accepted by Connecticut’s curbside, single-stream recycling, and thus end up in the trash. We are thrilled to partner with the Trumbull Health Department to offer an additional drop-off location, expanding our reach in the community, and keeping more products out of the trash. Reducing the consumption of product packaging is the gold standard for reducing overall waste in our environment, but not always feasible, so recycling additional items is the next best thing.”
Recycle clean and empty hair care/lotion bottles, 2 inches or larger, in municipal/curbside recycling, but do not include the tops. Bottles smaller than 2 inches can be recycled at the Trumbull Health Department or monthly recycling drives. The bottle tops can also be recycled at the Trumbull Health Department. Additional items to be recycled at the Health Department include:
- Skin care packaging (but not bottles): lip balm tubes, caps, soap dispensers and tubes, body wash caps, lotion dispenser and caps.
- Cosmetic packaging: lipstick/lip gloss tubes, mascara tubes, eye shadow cases, bronzer cases, foundation packaging, powder cases, eyeliner cases, eyeliner pencils, eye shadow tubes, concealer tubes, concealer sticks, and lip liner pencils.
- Hair care packaging: shampoo/conditioner caps only (bottles go in town recycling), hair gel tubes and caps, hair spray triggers, and hair paste caps
- Oral care products: floss containers, toothbrush outer packaging, toothpaste cartons, toothbrushes, and toothpaste tubes and caps
- Printer ink cartridges and toners: all brands accepted
- Plastic film: all #2 & #4 plastic wrap, plastic bags, bubble wrap, plastic case wrap, and all stretchy plastic
Additional recycling drop off locations include:
- Trumbull High School monthly recycling drive from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. This occurs the second Saturday of the month and hosted by Sustainable Trumbull.
- Trumbull Library, 33 Quality Street. Recyclables can be dropped off during normal business hours.
