Recycling Programs

Recycling in CT is mandatory. Recycling is the law for residents who live in single-family homes, multi-family buildings, businesses, non-profits, public and private agencies and institutions.

Single stream recycling is Trumbull’s main strategy offered to recycle common items including paper, plastic, metal, and glass. Single stream recycling includes drop off at the Transfer Station or pick-up from curbside bins.

Trumbull offers many opportunities to recycle items beyond single stream recycling.

First, to find out what recycled via single stream, check Recycle CT’s wizard to find out if items are accepted. https://www.recyclect.com/en/why-recycle/

Next, before putting items in the trash, check to see if an item can be recycled via the many other recycling programs offered in Trumbull including Beyond the Bin, Electronics, Household Hazardous Waste Day, Scrap Metal, Glass, and Composting options.

IF IN DOUBT, THROW IT OUT. Wish-cycling is the act of putting items in single stream recycling bins in hopes it will be recycled, when it should be placed in the trash.
