Town offices are open with limited access to the public to limit exposure to COVID19. With regard to paying taxes, we ask that you continue to use the mail, or use our online system to make payments. There is no drop-off box for tax payments. If you have questions, please email or leave a message and we will return the call.

If you must come to Town Hall, it is mandatory that you wear a mask and have identification, as you will be signing in and asked health questions before admittance. The waiting line will be outside the building.

The Tax Office will be closed from 1 PM -2 PM daily for lunch.

Tax Deferment: We know that many homeowners and businesses are struggling in these uncertain times. The Governor issued an executive order that gave towns options to help defer taxes. On Tuesday, April 21, 2020, the Trumbull Town Council approved a deferment program for all taxpayers, including businesses, in Trumbull. The deferment applies to the following taxes and fees that became due on April 1, 2020 and that will become due through and including July 1, 2020.

  • April 1st real estate tax and sewer assessment: last day for payment without interest is extended from May 1, 2020 to July 1, 2020
  • May 1st sewer use fee: last day for payment without interest is extended from June 1, 2020 to August 3, 2020
  • July 1st real estate tax, sewer assessment, personal property tax, and motor vehicle tax: last day for payment without interest is extended from August 3, 2020 to October 1, 2020

Please Note:

  • Imposition of lien fees is not affected.
  • Real estate accounts in escrow and paid by a bank are not eligible for this program
  • No application is necessary for taxpayers, including businesses, unless they are considered a landlord.

Tax Deferment for Landlords: Trumbull landlords who wish to be included in the program will need to file an eligibility application. To learn more about how to qualify from the Tax Assessor’s office, please call 203-452-5016 or email mdevestern@trumbull-ct.gov.

For safety and security reasons, there will be no drop off box for tax payments. Please mail in payments or use our online system. No cash will be accepted through the mail.  If mailing your tax payment, please make your check payable to "Trumbull Tax Collector" and mail to Trumbull Town Hall, Tax Collector, 5866 Main Street, Trumbull, CT 06611. Please use our online system to look up information regarding your tax bills. All amounts showing due on the website are accurate as of the date of viewing.  You may mail in a check or pay online.  Please note that if you use the mail, the U.S. postmark will be honored as the date of payment, regardless of when the payment is processed. If you choose to pay online, your payment will be reflected and updated in 48 hours on the online system.  IRS tax information is also available online. Be sure to check the box “IRS Payment Records for year 2019” before hitting the search button.

For the assessment of October 1, 2019, the Mill Rate is 34.74 for Real Estate, Personal Property and Motor Vehicles.

We accept payments by check or cash in the office. No credit / debit cards.

We accept payments online by e-check or credit / debit cards. 

We do not accept payments over the phone.

Important Notice from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

If you have received a tax bill from a Town that you did not reside in or garage or vehicle in as of October 1, 2019, contact the Tax Assessor, 203-452-5016, to request a transfer to the correct Town/City or residency as of October 1, 2019.

Purpose

The Tax Collector’s Office provides billing and collection of real estate, personal property, and motor vehicle taxes. We also bill and collect sewer assessments and sewer usage.

During the months of July and January you may experience lines at Town Hall. You should expect to wait in line if you are coming during this period. Lines are longest at lunchtime and as the last day to pay approaches. When paying in person, please have all your bills with you for faster service.
