Strobel Road Construction
Project Description
The Town of Trumbull Engineering Department is currently working on a Roadway Reconstruction of Strobel Road (from Daniels Farm Road to Booth Hill Road).
The scope of work will include intersection improvements at Daniels Farm Road, culvert improvements, roadway re-alignment, full depth roadway reconstruction and drainage improvements, etc.
This is a long-term project that will require multiple years to complete (weather dependent). Location of work along Strobel Road will be updated as the project progresses. Various sections of the road will be closed to through traffic at different times throughout this process. The Town of Trumbull will endeavor to keep disturbance to a minimum. However, your patience will be much appreciated. Construction work is anticipated to start at 7:00 AM daily. All bus stops will remain at their current locations.
The State of Connecticut will provide 100% of the construction costs and the Town of Trumbull was only required to fund the design of the project.
Project Progress
The Town will post updates to this website and include the anticipated two week look ahead for the project. Dates and locations are subject to change if unforeseen factors arise. Colonna Concrete & Asphalt Paving LLC is the contractor working for the Town on the Strobel Road Reconstruction project.
2/3/2021: 2 Week Look Ahead
Due to current weather conditions, there will be no construction activity on Strobel Road. Work is scheduled to continue the week of February 15th, 2021 if conditions allow. Updates will be continuously posted on the Town of Trumbull's website.
1/7/2021: 2 Week Look Ahead
Construction on Strobel Road will continue in January while the weather conditions are suitable to work in. The majority of construction activity will be within the road shoulder during this period of time unless otherwise notified.
Week of January 11th, 2021:
- Backfilling of curbing and grading of road shoulders
- Guardrail installation
- Permanent signage installation
- Construct concrete wall caps, install wall stone facing on concrete walls
Week of January 18th, 2021:
- Continuation of the task listed above
11/30/2020: 2 Week Look Ahead
On Monday, November 30th until Wednesday, December 2nd, 2020, Strobel Road will be closed between Chatham Drive and Gray Rock Road beginning at 7:00am to 5:00pm for paving of this section. The detour will be in place. School buses and emergency vehicles will be able to pass through.
Week of November 30th, 2020:
- Paving of binder course at Strobel Culvert
- Installation of remaining curbing
- Paving of top course starting at Chatham Drive
- Backfill of curbing and paving of driveways
- Continue installation of wall facing on concrete walls

11/6/2020: 2 Week Look Ahead
On Thursday, November 5th through Tuesday, November 10th, 2020, Strobel Road will be closed between Chatham Drive and Gray Rock Road but will remain open on the weekend. The detour will be active from 8:00am to 5:00pm for paving of this section. School busses and emergency vehicles will be able to pass through

- Install all remaining curbing on Strobel Road from Chatham Drive to Booth Hill Road
- Install new permanent signage on Daniels Farm Road and Strobel Road up to Chatham Drive

- On Monday, 10/26/20, one lane will be closed with alternating traffic between Hemlock Trail and Shelter Rock Rd
- Final grading & binder course paving between Chatham Dr to Gray Rock Rd. Detour will be in place

The traffic signal has been removed at the Strobel Culvert and two-way traffic is currently restored.

8/31/2020: 2 Week Look Ahead
Strobel Road between Chatham Drive and Gray Rock Road will be closed from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, August 31, 2020, for the removal of the two-way traffic signal. Two way traffic will be restored at the culvert location within the week
Strobel Road between Daniels Farm Road and Chatham Drive will be closed from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Tuesday, September 1 and Wednesday, September 2, 2020 for the final paving of this section of Strobel Road. Detours will be in place and the road will be put back together by the end of each workday.

8/19/2020: 2 Week Look Ahead
Strobel Road between Chatham Drive and Gray Rock Road will be closed from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday, August 21, 2020, for application of waterproofing membrane on top of new box culverts
Detours will be in place. The road will be put back together by the end of the day, including temporary paving.

As of July 13th, 2020, the temporary traffic signal will be in place and operating at the Strobel Road culvert located between Doe Hollow Drive and Hemlock Trail. Alternating one way traffic will be used for the duration of the culvert repairs, which is anticipated to be complete the 1st week of September, 2020.
On July 31st and August 3rd, the phase 2 detour from Gray Rock Road to Chatham Drive will be used between the hours of 7:00am and 5:00pm:

- Establish new traffic pattern for the North lane at the Stobel Culvert in preparation to switch alternating traffic lanes

The temporary traffic signal at the Strobel Road culvert (between Doe Hollow Drive and Hemlock Trail) is being installed on July 13, 2020.
The temporary traffic signal at the Strobel Road culvert is being installed between Doe Hollow Drive and Hemlock Trail. The alternating one way traffic will be in place and operational by the end of the day today, 7/13/2020. The Contractor will also begin working on the culvert. It is anticipated that two-way traffic will resume the 1st week of September, 2020.
Starting the week of July 6th, 2020, alternating traffic lanes will be used on Strobel Road at the location of the Booth Hill Brook Culvert.

Week of July 6thth, 2020:
- Setup and implement alternating one way traffic at culvert with additional signage and safety barriers

Starting on January 13th, 2020, the Phase 1 detour from Booth Hill Road to Gray Rock Road will be active until further notice. Alternating traffic will be used along various sections of Strobel Road and Daniels Farm Road. The tree removal to occur between Booth Hill Road and Gray Rock Road will require the use of large equipment and will obstruct the majority of the roadway. Please be aware that if your residence is within this section that is being detoured, you may be required to enter through the opposite side. Access will be limited until the remaining trees have been removed from this area.

Starting on December 23, 2019, the contractor will be stopping work on Strobel Road. Dependent on weather conditions we are expecting to continue work in January of 2020. The Phase 2 detour from Chatham Drive to Gray Rock Road will not be active until the contractor returns. An update will be posted on the Town of Trumbull website prior to the detour being re-activated.

Detour for Strobel Road Reconstruction
The contractor will close lower Strobel Road from Gray Rock Road to Booth Hill Road, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM until further notice.
The roadway will be open to traffic Monday through Friday after 4:30PM and on the weekends. During the time of construction, emergency vehicles and school buses will be allowed through at all times.
School buses will pick up and drop off students at their respective bus stops.
A detour for this area for all vehicular traffic, other than emergency vehicles and school buses, will be in effect from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The detour is as follows:
Booth Hill Road to Pilgrim Lane to Beacon Hill Road to Stoneleigh Road to Gray Rock Road to Strobel Road and the reverse.
For residents travelling North on Pinewood Trail, the detour will start at Bear Den Road to Hemlock Trail.

Detour for Strobel Road Reconstruction
Important information from First Selectman Tesoro about the Strobel Road construction project:
This project was scheduled to begin this Thursday, August 29, 2019. As that is the first day of school, I have delayed the start of the project to next Tuesday, September 3rd at 7AM. You may see some minor construction activity over the next 2 days, but there will be no road closures or detours until next Tuesday.
Beginning on September 3rd, the contractor will close lower Strobel Road from Gray Rock Road to Booth Hill Road, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM until further notice.
The roadway will be open to traffic Monday through Friday after 4:30PM and on the weekends.
During the time of construction, emergency vehicles and school buses will be allowed through at all times.
School buses will pick up and drop off students at their respective bus stops.

Detour for Strobel Road Reconstruction
Important information from First Selectman Tesoro about the Strobel Road construction project:
This project was scheduled to begin this Thursday, August 29, 2019. As that is the first day of school, I have delayed the start of the project to next Tuesday, September 3rd at 7AM. You may see some minor construction activity over the next 2 days, but there will be no road closures or detours until next Tuesday.
Beginning on September 3rd, the contractor will close lower Strobel Road from Gray Rock Road to Booth Hill Road, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM until further notice.
The roadway will be open to traffic Monday through Friday after 4:30PM and on the weekends.
During the time of construction, emergency vehicles and school buses will be allowed through at all times.
School buses will pick up and drop off students at their respective bus stops.
A detour for this area for all vehicular traffic, other than emergency vehicles and school buses, will be in effect from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The detour is as follows:
