Car Seat Inspections

The Trumbull Police Department is pleased to offer car seat inspections as a public service to Town residents by appointment only. Members of the Traffic Division, who are certified as Child Passenger Safety Technicians, perform this service.

To make an appointment to have your car seat inspected, or if you have any questions related to child passenger safety, please email Coleen Fitch or call 203-452-3854.

Please include in your email:

  1. Your full name, address and telephone #
  2. Make/model of the car seat you’re looking for help with
  3. Make/model of the vehicle the car seat is going into
  4. Age/height/weight of the child(ren), or note that the child isn’t born yet

There is generally a 3 to 4 week waiting period for inspection appointments, so please be sure to call well in advance.

Car Seat Expiration

All manufacturers put expiration dates on their car seats. Six years is the general recommendation, however, this varies by manufacturer. The reasons for these limits involve possible degradation of the plastic shell, harness, and other parts; the possible loss/breakage of parts; and the fact that older seats will often not meet current government safety standards.
