Administration
The Trumbull Police Department, created in 1941 through an act of the State Legislature, is under the jurisdiction of a six member Board of Police Commissioners appointed by the First Selectman. Commission members are appointed for a three-year term and serve without pay.

Detective Bureau

The Patrol Division, the backbone of the Police Department, is the largest and most visible division and is where every Police Officer begins his/her career.

Police Social Worker
The Trumbull Police Department Social Worker assists persons in need of services not typically handled by Police Officers. The goals of the Police Social Worker are to reduce the repeat emergency calls for individuals with underlying social problems, follow up with individuals and other agencies to ensure that people are receiving the appropriate care, provide extended case management to reduce recidivism, and work with members of the department to increase awareness about mental health issues.

Professional Standards
The Office of Professional Standards is staffed by a Lieutenant, who works under the direction of the Chief of Police. This office is responsible for internal affairs and the investigation of civilian complaints, inspections for department personnel and operations, policy formulation and compliance with accreditation standards. At times, the duties may also include some aspects of planning and research for the police department.
