The Trumbull Police Department Social Worker assists persons in need of services not typically handled by Police Officers. The goals of the Police Social Worker are to reduce the repeat emergency calls for individuals with underlying social problems, follow up with individuals and other agencies to ensure that people are receiving the appropriate care, provide extended case management to reduce recidivism, and work with members of the department to increase awareness about mental health issues.
The Police Social Worker’s role applies after all immediate Police matters have been resolved, so if you or anyone you know is in danger, please dial 911 immediately.
The Department’s Social Worker assists Police Officers with the following types of situations:
- Elderly services
- Child neglect
- Animal abuse/neglect
- Ongoing neighbor disputes
- Repetitive verbal domestic disputes
- Housing (homelessness, evictions)
- Mental health and addiction issues
- Juvenile issues (school incidents, parent/child conflicts)
