Engineering
The Engineering Department of the Town of Trumbull is the technical service advisory division of the Public Works Department. The department:
- Enforces local, state and federal laws
- Establishes engineering policies
- Keeps records
- Provides adequate controls to ensure responsible construction within the Town
Schedule an Appointment
Scheduling an appointment is not required, but is helpful. In many cases, the department may be able to answer questions or quickly resolve issues and save you a visit to the building.
Design
The department is the designer of numerous projects carried out by the Highway Department, the main technical advisor to the Planning and Zoning Commission and Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission (IWWC), the department also acts as the Agent for the IWWC. We also provide engineering services and advice to various departments such as:
- Fire
- Police and Highway Departments
- Tax Assessor
- Town Clerk
Design Services
The preparation, review and evaluation of designs for the Public Works Department, Sewer Department, and other Town agencies are a part of the design services performed by the Engineering Department, the vast majority of which are done in computer-aided drafting and design (CADD)
Site Inspections
Another essential function of the department is site inspections; Engineering inspectors provide the necessary construction inspections to insure project conformance to the plans, specifications, and requirements of other Town agencies. The inspectors do inspection for new subdivisions, site plans for commercial and industrial developments, and all road openings done by utility companies and other contractors as well as sewer projects.
Field Services
Other field services are performed by our department’s survey crew who collects field data used in the Town’s design work. In addition, the Town will provide street line survey (the property line between private property and the Town road) to any resident who requests it, for the landowners purposes of planting, placing a fence, or their required shrub removal in order to comply with a driver sight distance zoning laws; the rear or side property corners cannot be staked, however. There is a charge for street line survey.
